Description :
This study is an investigation of the processes of integration of the atmospheric, hydrologic, biologic, and geologic environmental subsystems that interact to maintain a dissolved oxygen flux in a first-order stream in the Amazon rainforest. Stream water quality data and atmospheric data were collected in a sub-basin of the Rio Napo in the Amazon rainforest of Peru. This research demonstrates some of the more complex ways in which the environmental subsystems are linked and suggests that changes much less dramatic than deforestation can bring about significant alterations of these subsystems.
