Description :
This paper presents new paleoenvironmental data from Red Spider Cave. After a brief introduction to the cave and its setting, the importance of speleothem ages is discussed. Relationships between the present vegetation near the cave and pollen in recent speleothems and soils then are investigated to determine if speleothem pollen spectra provide reliable information on vegetation. Finally, the palynological and geomorphic data are combined to produce a late Quaternary environmental history for the Red Spider Cave area.
