Description :
The AA. address the suitability of two montane ecotones, the alpine treeline ecotone and the deciduous/Boreal forest ecotone, as indicators of climate change. In so doing, they 1) briefly review the literature on the ecotone, focusing on the factors that create and maintain its position at a given location; 2) assess the projected response of the ecotone to various aspects of global warming (e.g., increased temperature, altered moisture balances); and 3) discuss the suitability of the ecotone as an indicator of global climate change.
