Description :
The purpose of this study was to use the major, minor, and trace constituent groundwater geochemistry to determine likely recharge sources, groundwater residence times, and the extent of mixing between groundwater masses of differing residence times in southeastern Colorado and central and western Kansas. Paleorecharge rates calculated from the Cl concentration in the samples show that recharge rates were at least twice the late Holocene rate during late Pleistocene-early Holocene time. These results are consistent with the global climate models that show a trend toward a warmer, more arid climate during the Holocene.
