Quaternary moraines vs catastrophic rock avalanches in the Karakoram Himalaya, Northern Pakistan

Auteur :
HEWITT, K.

Description :
The research on which this paper is based concerned the nature and incidence of catastrophic landslides. However, related work, especially that which has mistaken these landslides for glacial deposits, has focused mainly on Quaternary history. Questions of discriminating among mass movement and glacial events and deposits are raised, and doubt is cast on accepted notions of Pleistocene glaciation in the region. An alternative interpretation is suggested for major depositional and erosional features of the upper Indus valleys.
