Description :
Patterns of climate and C4 plant abundance in the southwestern United States during the last glaciation were evaluated from isotopic study of herbivore tooth enamel. The primary objectives were to : delineate synoptic patterns in late Pleistocene C4 plant abundance across the southwest from δC 13 values of herbivore enamel; and evaluate the data in the context of a quantum yield model for photosynthesis and surface moisture conditions inferred from enamel δO 18 values and other paleoproxy records.
