Description :
Two Quaternary alluvial megafans from typically different lithological source regions, sedimentary and igneous terrains, in the western and southern flanks of Kohrud Mountain range (KMR) were selected in this study. General geomorphic characteristics and sedimentology of these megafans were compared. These fans developed their geometry mainly in response to different weathering intensities of their catchment bedrock lithologies. The other major variables , such as tectonics, climatic change and base-level fluctuations, were also consistent for the development of these fans. The study area is representative of conditions for the volution of alluvial megafans in drylands with a fluctuation in sediment supply and a long-term climate change.
