Description :
The aim of this paper is to present examples of landform-controlled treeline types occurring in the Alps, northern Europe, and the Rocky Mountains. These treeline types serve to assess the potential for change in selected treeline types with particular respect to the functional role of local landforms and microtopography and its influence on treeline-landscape structural and spatial patterns at higher elevation. Several topography-related treeline types are therefore presented and their responses to a warming climate discussed.
