After on overview about the history of the School of Geography founded in Florence in 1903 and after reporting the recent experience in the Specialization School for teachers, this paper focuses on the role attributed to geography. It emerges that in the past as nowadays it was widely accepted a reductive vision of geography – even at high level – as if the space dimension would be less important than the time dimension. - (NF)
