The article presents the scientific achievements of Swedish academic Rudolf Kjellén (1864-1922), who established the term “geopolitics” to describe a new research discipline, and who joined Friedrich Ratzel (1844-1904) in determining its theoretical and methodological assumptions. Kjellén’s biography is presented here, and reference then made to his books entitled Staten som livsform (“The State as a Life-Form”) and Stormakterna (“The Great Powers”) – both works being treated as classics in the field of geopolitics. Information on Kjellén’s attitudes to the world political situation of his day is also included. – (BJ)
