Description :
The article deals with selected issues of demographic problems of the population on rural peripheral areas in Ukraine in the 1990–2010 period. It also discusses the problem of diversification of approaches towards defining peripheral areas and their criteria. In the time-spatial dimension the following elements of the demographic situation of rural population can be distinguished: changes in population number, birth rate, mortality rate and structure, infant mortality rate, fertility rate, population’s age structure, natural increase and migration rate. It is there that Ukraine experiences a deep demographic crisis resulting from historical and socio-economic factors. That situation is also a consequence of the steady obstruction and falsification of agricultural reforms. – (BJ)
