Description :
After the change in the political system the number of towns has considerably increased in Hungary. Thus several such settlements have become a town, which cannot be considered a real town in functional term. Szob, the small town also belongs to them. Based upon different sources and primarily empirical researches, the main purposes of the study are to demonstrate what urban status means in Hungary in the beginning of the 21st century, and how it affects the social and economic development of a settlement, on the case of Szob during the last decade, especially its transport geographical location and tourism potential, and what is the opinion of the local population about it. - (AM)
