Exploratory analysis of polygons distributed with overlap

Description :
To assist the exploratory analysis of polygons, the article proposes a new method of analyzing the relations among polygons. The method permits to understand the entire structure of the relations among polygons and to detect local spatial patterns in these relations. The Hasse diagram and its extension are introduced to describe the topological structure of polygons. The extension of the diagram provides a means of classifying polygons. The method is employed to analyze the results of an experiment in environmental psychology.
