Les AA. analysent les changements subis par la couverture du sol du XIXème au XIXème siècle dans le bassin-versant de la rivière Walker au Nevada et en Californie. Ils étudient aussi les impacts directs et indirects de l’agriculture irriguée. Les résultats montrent une évolution du couvert végétal, passant d’une végétation mésique à xérique. Ils notent une plus large distribution des peupliers d’Amérique que par le passé et une réduction des forêts ripicoles.
