Mapping the human settlement of South East Asian cities using ALOS AVNIR-2

This study reports human settlement area mapping of Yangon and Hanoi using an Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2 (AVNIR-2) sensor from Advanced Land Observing and Satellite (ALOS). The results were compared with high spatial resolution satellite images (QuickBird at 0.67 m spatial resolution) for further population estimation and analysis along with other GIS datasets (socio-economic and urban planning, disaster management and emergency preparation).
