Zones of transformation? Informal construction and independent zoning plans in East Jerusalem

This article analyses the current state of affairs in East Jerusalem in terms of building and planning. It goes go on to examine the causes and consequences of the consolidation of the spot-zoning practice in the Israeli planning system. It then highlights this practice, which it refers to independent planning. It concludes by reflecting on the possibilities and limitations this practice offers to the transformation of planning paradigms, as well as to our understanding of the relationship between planning, rights, and citizenship.
