Description :
The aim of this article is to find an index capable of measuring territorial imbalances and considers a number of indicators to be relevant and applied to all Romanian counties. The results indicate that territorial disparities in a transition country with a large rural population can be measured by an aggregate index essentially formed by the gross domestic product, the number of inhabitants per room, and the rate of school dropouts. It concludes that it is a relevant indicator when taking into account the results’ spatial significance. Also, the Drane-Aldrich-Creanga test reconfirms the results and underlines the GDP’s importance in Vrancea and Giurgiu counties in comparison to the adjacent units.
