Alcohol, poverty and the South African city

Auteurs :
HERRICK, C.
PARNELL, S.

Description :
The burden of alcohol-related mortality and morbidity in South Africa is among the highest in the world, and its effects are made worse by persistent socio-economic and structural inequalities. Its consumption has become a public health and development crisis. At the same time alcohol makes a significant contribution to the national economy and individual livelihoods signalling an entrenched tension, which is evident in the South African city and contemporary development debates. - (AJC)
