Slovenia as the natural park of Europe? Territorial impact assessment in the case of Natura 2000

Natura 2000 generates some negative socio-economic and governance-administrative impacts. For unimpededly implementing EU policies, the ESPON EATIA project proposed a participatory process. Testing the Habitat Directive showed it hinders economic growth and investments. Although the regulation improves quality of life, it extends spatial planning procedures and causes conflicts among stakeholders. Participatory process facilitates experience exchange and mitigates the effect assessment of the selected regulation. - (IKR)
