Description :
The birth and thriving of Brigetio is directly connected to the geomorphological surface evolution of Danube’s valley and the alteration of floodplains. The study aims to create a synthesis for the natural and anthropogenic environment of the Roman center. Brigetio was a base for one of the Pannonian legions that had to be defended from attacks, therefore the romans created an artificial lake (the later swamp) damming the Fényes-patak and the Danube’s floodwaters into an already inactive Danube-subchannel. The city had to be built where the town of Szőny is today: to the highest regions, the levees of the former “Brigetio Island”. - (AM)
