Antonin Strnad, 1746-1799

Auteurs :
KALVODA, J.
NOVOTNA, E.

Description :
Strnad was an outstanding mathematician, astronomer and physical geographer in the arts faculty of the Charles University in Prague. His work in meteorology, agriculture, and physical geography, and the network of correspondents that he helped to create illustrates his own industriousness and the flow of ideas among scholars in the Enlightenment’s ‘Republic of Letters’. He was typical of many speculative natural philosophers in the decades before ‘science’ became formalized in professions and in disciplines. Strnad is now recognized as one of the most notable personalities of the Charles University during the Enlightenment. - (HC)
