Description :
The article draws on a case study of Totnes, a small market town in the southwest of the UK, to provide an empirical example of the emergence of an alternative milieu and the benefits of the approach. The paper proceeds as follows: in the first section, it introduces and explains the concept of an alternative milieu. It then provides some background on the case-study area. In the next section, it describes the emergence of the alternative milieu under consideration, and the processes leading to its development. Finally, it summarises the benefits of this conceptual approach, and highlight some limitations and possible directions for future research.
