This paper investigates the role of Joint Urban Operations as instruments for land value capture. Starting with a study on Faria Lima Urban Operation in São Paulo, it then discusses limitations and opportunities of Linha Verde Urban Operation in Curitiba. It demonstrates that on the one hand, this mechanism acts as an instrument of leveraging urban transformation. While, on the other hand, it highlights inefficiency in the social management of land appreciation.
