Zones protégées comme déterminant de la diversification spatiale de l'agriculture en Pologne

Auteur :
RUDNICKI, R.

Description :
The article contains analysis of the spatial structure of Polish agriculture. Factors other than natural, including historical ones, were shown as having an exceptionally strong impact. Regarding natural conditions it was found that legally protected areas mattered more than the quality of agricultural production area. It was established that poviats with dominant proportion (over 75%) of such areas displayed a lower level of farming as a result of limitations on production intensification. Besides, the pre-accession SAPARD programme was used to assess the performance of Polish agriculture in absorbing EU funds. It was shown that the activity of farmers to obtain EU funds for investments raising farming intensity tended to decline when growth in proportion of protected areas took place, and increase if funds were used to acquire additional (non-agricultural) sources of income. From the point of view of eco-development this is a favourable tendency. - (BJ)
