The aim of the paper is to find opportunities and threats of tourism development in Koprivshtitza - the historical Bulgarian nature reserve - and to verify chances for sustainable tourism development. On the basis of personal observations, talks with town inhabitants and tourists, as well as SWOT analysis it was stated that tourism is the right strategy of the town’s development. Although threats are also seen, sustainable tourism is the opportunity for the town. The tourism in the analysed town reveals some elements of sustainability. It is based on site environment attraction and culture uniqueness, with minimal human impact on the environment. Additionally the local community is employed in the sector. - (BJ)
