Description :
The enormous discrepancies in income between industrialized and developing countries are mostly based on different capabilities to acquire and absorb new technological knowledge. Presently a historically unique trend can be observed by which industries and services are transferred into emerging economies. This includes knowledge-intensive production of complex goods and services. Does this mean that income discrepancies are melting down quickly? Not yet. The transfer of even very complex productions has become easier today, the road towards efficient innovation systems however is still long. The essay demonstrates that some emerging economies, close up to innovative countries because of their accumulation of capital, their investments in education and the size of their markets. - (IfL)
