A large number of geographers have already been involved in the protection of natural values and disaster prevention. The experts however are facing a contradiction: in many cases it is difficult to decide unambiguously whether the phenomenon or process belongs to natural values or hazards. The study presents the interrelated systems of hazards and values and describes the main types of the natural hazards. - (AM)
