Description :
Some vertebrate and mollusc fossils have been found on the southern hillslope of the Mátra Mountains near the village of Atkár. The fossils occured in the upper part of an 8-13 m thick Pannonian sand unit. The age of the fossils remains are ca. 6 Ma BP. These faunal elements indicate a steppe-like environment, which correlates fairly well with the warm/hot and dry spell of the Late Miocene. - (AM)
