The article investigates in what way insights with regard to these functions can be gained from internal migrations in and between these spatial units. Here the delimitation of these spatial units is initially reflected, which is of elementary significance for the analysis of migrations in this reference system. According to the structure of large or metropolitan regions a distinction is made between migrations between and migrations within the large or metropolitan regions. - (IfL)
