The article considers the current patterns and principles of internal migrations in the higher adult age. On the basis of time series of migration statistics an analysis of migration participation, of the radius of migrations as well as of the regions of origin and destination is carried out. Here the changes since the unification of Germany - i.e. a medium-term perspective - stand in the foreground as well as the question which is frequently discussed in public in what way the immigration of senior citizens opens chances for such structurally weak regions which are characterized by net out-migration of younger groups of people. - (IfL)
