Although they play a major role in the history of Southeast Asia, the Mon people, crushed for centuries between the Burmese and the Thaïs kingdom expansions, are little known outside. The book provides a concise survey of their resistance till the 1995 ceasefire agreements with the Burmese junta. Social, political and military aspects of Mon nationalist movement in 20th century Burma are also studied till 2001. The Mon are still struggling to preserve their identity in a rapidly changing world.
