Die kanadische Prärie. Pionierregion zwischen Beharrung und Neuorientierung

La Prairie canadienne : région pionnière entre permanence et mutation

Auteur :
STADEL, C.

Description :
In the perception of many Canadians, the Prairies are a rather peripheral, traditional and stable region. Yet, the changing societal, economic and political structures and processes have contributed to an array of significant changes of rural and urban landscapes. In this contribution the focus is placed - in spite of pronounced urbanization trends and economic diversification - on the development of agriculture and the changing rural landscapes, by many still considered to be the core of Prairie identity. Since the arrival of Europeans, the landscape of the Prairies had undergone several stages of profound change. - (IfL)
