Urbanization of the peripheral areas in Pakistan´s Punjab creates attractive economic alternatives to the traditional farming economy. Simultaneously it introduces urban norms into a historically agrarian-based culture. The alteration of the socio-economic climate has modified the traditional gender role of Punjab´s rural women. This study examines the landscape transformation of the urbanizing rural communities and its effect on rural Punjab women. - (IfL)
