Zois' library was among the best in Carniola of his time. Zois' library motivated pretty serious scientific research, and also the Zois' protégée Valentin Vodnik's popular reports, and later school lectures. The French occupation of the Illyrian Provinces enabled Zois' straightforward acquisition of Parisian geographic literature, although up to then traditional import of the Viennese or German books ceased as the effect of Napoleonic continental blockade of English trade. - (L'A.).
