Description :
This paper focuses on the rate of present-day retreat of slopes, as determined by direct measurement, both above and below the upper timberline, and in relation to erosion, mass movements, cryogenic processes, nivation, aeolian processes, etc. Research was done in all the high-mountain areas of Slovakia except the Chočské Vrchy. The results are compared with those obtained for the sub-montane belt (the area below the upper timberline).
