In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing interest for the role of territorial characters in the process of development. The E.U. is soliciting the production of new instruments for territorial analysis and new models useful to support decision makers. In particular, we discuss the most important problems of economic geography in this field; and we briefly show the most interesting new geographical model: the Sustainable Territorial Management Approach. - (NF)
