Auteurs :CABASSET-SEMEDO, C.

Description :
Divided in four parts, this book is the outcome of a panel on Timor-Leste entitled How to build a new nation ? held in September 2007. 1- A difficult transition toward a new nation, 2- Socio-cultural identities and factors in question, 3- Politics, legitimacy and electoral processes, 4- Tracks for the construction of the future. The fundamental elements of the country, forever tied to Portuguese and Indonesian colonization, are presented in historical perspective. Reconciliation, between Timor-Leste and Indonesia as well as between Timor nationals themselves divided in pro-integration and pro-independent, is one of the main challenges of Timor-Leste’s nation building. For the future small entrepreneurs and private initiatives can become essential players in the emerging tourist industry. - (GL)
