Description :
The aim of this paper is to address 2 main objectves : to put forward a critical review of the methods available to map and monitor intertidal habitats; then, to test at a specific site whether a new simplified method (mainly based on georeferenced direct field observations, DFO method) is sufficient and suitable to be applied by non-specialists for benthic habitat mapping and monitoring. This method is further compared with existing, more conventional, methods : remote sensing methods (aerial photographs, satellite images). The study site is the Chausey Islands in the Normand-Breton Gulf (France). Results and discussion.
