Description :
In this paper reflections on the development of scarpfoot depressions are presented from a geomorphologic-geological, and sedimentological point of view. They are intended to clarify whether post-sedimentary relief development in Central Sahara started pre-Upper Cretaceous or only in Tertiary, and further whether the geomorphological forms in the area of examination are to be classified as belonging mainly to either a (semi)humid-tropical type of relief or a semi-arid type in terms of geomorphogenetic aspects. The studies concentrate on the Bilma basin where actually elongated endorheic depressions in the western forelands are ubiquitous.
