Le rôle du HIV et du SIDA dans la situation sociale et économique en Afrique sub-saharienne

Auteur :
SZÉKELY MOLNÁR, Á.

Description :
HIV/AIDS is one of the most important factors in the economic development of Sub-Saharan Africa. In this region there was a strong southward trend in spreading of the disease in the past decade. After the collapse of the apartheid regime, the South African region became the most affected area. The special epidemic situation has also resulted in a strong change in the trend of population growth. In Swaziland there is and in Lesotho and South Africa there might be a downward tendency in the volume of the population. The consequences of these changes can be experienced not only in the extent of population change, but also in the relative extent of different age-groups and sex. The paper presents the prevalence rates and the spreading directions of HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa and analyses the effects of the disease on the social and economic situation. - (AM)
