A ciprusi belső határ

Les frontières intérieures de Chypre

Auteur :
TÁTRAI, P.

Description :
The inner border of Cyprus, which is in fact a buffer zone exists for 35 years. Its formation is due to the several coincided factors; among them the ethnic seclusion, the strong nationalism the Greek and the Turkish Cypriot communities and the contemporary geopolitic situation are the most important ones. The study tries to outline the underlying coefficients of the Cyprus conflict focussing mainly to the ethnic background. The different demographic processes of the ethnic groups are also investigated as the remained few Greek and Turkish minorities on both sides. The present condition of the inner border is also presented including the recent processes. In the final part of the paper, there are two examples for the different effects of the border: firstly the transformation of urban structure in the centre of Nicosia and then the interethnic relations in the ethnically mixed village of Pyla situated in the buffer zone. - (AM)
