The aim of the study is to throw light on the factors behind the changing intensity of the cultural interactions by surveying the history of the student migration directed from Hungary toward Heidelberg. The paper analyses the fluctuation of the number of Hungarian students and their regional origin, fields of study, social status and religious affiliation reflecting the profound socio-economic changes that took place in Hungary between 1789 and 1919. - (AM)
