This paper describes possibilities for Fragstats to be used in the natural sciences and aims to assist in its popularisation, by providing an overview of Polish and foreign literature, as illustrated by examples of specific studies in which Fragstats was employed. The first of its three parts presents the general premises underpinning the programme and describes its main functions. The second part offers an overview of Polish and foreign literature on the use of the software in research into various aspects of the natural environment. The third part then presents the author’s own studies on the software’s use in both landscape research methodology and practice. - (BJ)
