This work analyses a suite of relict tufa mounds generated by artesian karstic springs in Isona area (Spanish Pyrenees). The paper provides an evolutionary geological model for these peculiar depositional landforms addressing the hydrogeological setting, the structural controls on the location of the springs, the hydrochemistry of the groundwater, the morphology and sedimentology of the mounds and their internal structure via geophysical data (seismics and vertical electrical resistivity soundings), the geochronology of the buid-ups and the stable-isotope composition of the springwaters and tufa deposits.
