Experiencing rapid growth during the past few decades urban tourism has become a major economic resource for european cities. We can observe important changes concerning both the supply side of city tourism and the visitor practices of consumption. Whereas urban tourism used to be a privileged form of traditional cultural travel in former centuries with an increasing importance of business travel during the twentieth century, it combines now multi-fold motives for travel activities. For this reason city tourism appears to be less exposed to a potential crisis than other sectors of the tourism economy.
