The fourteen articles deal with the social space models in the employment policy context (an incomplete overview of the discussions in social science on the concept of social space); the particular need for action in disadvantaged neighbourhoods for education, work and social space; the informal learning opportunities in the urban district; the initial situation, first projects and common thesis paper to education project in the framework of the national urban development policy; requirement for action, scope and limitations for a municipal management of transition; success-promoting factors in the integration of socially disadvantaged target groups with local networks; the evaluation of an ESF (European Social fund) special programme in disadvantaged neighbourhoods; the variety through competition – from the black box to the programme theory of BIWAQ; experience and concepts from community work about employment promotion in and for the urban district; approaches for the BIWAQ-project in the Leverkusen district Rheindorf-Nord which are founded on household science and oriented towards the living environment; “P 3”, a Pliensauvorstadt project perspective at Esslingen am Neckar; the theatre-pedagogical approaches in the socially integrative city with JobAct in Ludwigshafen; a local economy project of Speyer-West; and the wedding culture as a motor of the economy of the urban district in Duisburg-Marxloh. - (IfL)
