Les AA. analyse l'accès aux magasins alimentaires de détail ou aux supermarchés appartenant à des chaînes proposant des produits frais à des prix compétitifs à Portland. L'accès au désert alimentaire est effectué à l'aide d'un Système d'Information Géographique en prenant en compte la proximité (distance à parcourir) et la concurrence dans le même quartier. Les résultats montrent que ces magasins se concentrent en centre-ville tandis que l'accès est plus difficile dans les zones péri-urbaines et qu'il dépend des transports publics disponibles.
