Les AA. évaluent les changements topographiques résultant de la croissance urbaine à New York depuis le premier quart du XIXème siècle jusqu’à la fin du XXème siècle. L’analyse spatiale permet de comparer la topographie historique et contemporaine de Manhattan, ainsi que les changements d’altitude et le volume de terre utilisé ou enlevé. Ils expliquent que la partie Ouest de ce quartier a connu plus de changements topographiques que la partie Est, compte-tenu de son aspect accidenté à l’époque. Néanmoins, le modèle spatial de la variation topographique est resté largement constant.
