Updating our understanding of climate change in the North Atlantic : the role of global warming and the Gulf Stream

Auteur :
O'HARE, G.

Description :
The understanding of North Atlantic climate and the dual processes of global warming and Gulf Stream action which affect it, is as uncertain today as in the early 2000s. This paper will show how fast our ideas on future global and North Atlantic climate are altering. The interaction of positive and negative feedbacks are key to our future climate. The impact of the thermohaline circulation and of the wind power and stronger westerlies are discussed. The worrying projections on future climate change over the North Atlantic region remain subject to a high degree of uncertainty.
