Marcel Dubois, 1856-1916

Auteur :
CLOUT, H.

Description :
Marcel Dubois taught colonial geography at the Sorbonne in Paris, and from 1891 to 1894 was co-editor of the Annales de Geographie with Paul Vidal de la Blache. However, this relationship was short-lived and Dubois operated with increasing isolation from Vidal and his disciples. Dubois had his own cluster of doctoral students, but they too were marginalised in contrast with the rising tide of Vidalians and of Vidalian orthodoxy that dominated French academic geography during the first half of the twentieth century. - (HC)
